The famous Penang Chendul

Food In Penang

In Penang there is so much food that you can eat. The photo that you are seeing is me of course, next to the world famous Teochew Penang Chendul stand. The stand is surprisingly on the road as are many of the stalls for food. People stand around the stall and eat or they would get it in a plastic bag to go. Chendul is a mixture of coconut milk, kidney beans that have been cooked in sugar, firm green pandan noodles made from rice flour , shaved ice [ finer in texture than Italian ice ] and topped with gula melaka [ palm sugar ].
There is even a web-site for this famous stall

Container ships docked at Penang

Penang island is a major port where container ships unload their goods as can be seen in the picture.
'Penang was a British colony and was an established pepper port in 1786 '[ wikipedia]

The Ferry Ride

The line for the ferry ride was soooo long. Since we all were in 2 cars, we got split up at one point. My dad, brother , mom & Kudea ] went first. They load all the cars onto the ferry first and then the motorcyles. We [ I was in Aunty Belinda's car ] had to wait for the next ferry. It took about 20 to 25 minutes. When you get on the ferry you probably think that it will be really bumpy and people will throw up. But really the ride is very smooth and NO BODY THROWS UP !!!!!!! When we got off I kinda wanted to go on it again. I was on the upper deck.

Day 7

December 15th.

When I woke up early in the morning, straight away we started up a huge hill. The hill's name was Bukit Kiara Arboretum-Taman Tun Dr. Ismal. When we finished the hike, all of us were very hungry. So, we went to a Nasi Kandar restaurant, or what they call it here a (restoran). I ate, or some of the dishes were. Dhosai- paper thin dhosai, Dhosai- with potatoes, and I personally had something called Roti Chanai. After brunch, we went to a club swimming pool, and played Marco Polo. When we were in the hike, we saw so many monkeys. I will probably let you guys see photos of them. :)

Dinner at home with my grandparents.

Day 2

December 10th.

When I woke up I was still fighting the jet lag and I felt horrible. My Poh Poh and Kong Kong took me and my brother Siddhartha ( also known as Sidd ) to get breakfast. In Malaysia the breakfast is not like America - just cereal. It is usually a bowl of rice or noodles, dim sum or what I had that is called pau. Pau is a soft bread that is plain white, and inside of it there is usually a filling. There are many kinds of fillings. My filling was chicken and is called ' Tai Pau' in Cantonese. A direct translation is 'Big Pau'. My favorite is 'Char Siew', which is a pork filling.
I took a huge nap and when I woke up it was already dinner time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally I had dinner on my second day...

Day 1

December 9th.

When I got off the flight in Kuala Lumpur, I felt so sleepy. First of all, I was sleepy because I had to wake up at 12:05 in the morning to get off of our last flight, and second of all the jet lag. But after I saw my Poh Poh and Kong Kong the jet lag kind of went away.

We even had to use 2 cars because of all of our luggage. The 2 cars were driven by my Kudea (Kudea means uncle) and my Aunty Belinda. ( She is my 'Aunty' because she is much older than me and she is my mother's good friend )

When I got to my Poh Poh and Kong Kong's house it looked like a mansion to me because I live inside a small apartment. In seconds, I almost fainted right where I was because, I had just noticed how HOT it was!!!!!!!!!!!! I skipped dinner and went right to sleep at around 3pm Malaysian time [ 1am central time]. :)

GETTING TO MALAYSIA

(TIP)IF YOU ARE GOING ON A VERY LONG FLIGHT YOU MUST BRING GUM!

December 7. Monday 2009. I had to wake up at 4:30 in the morning to get to a flight that was only at 7:30!!!

The flights that I went on were - Detroit to Tokyo (it was snowing in Detroit already), Tokyo to Singapore and lastly, Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I know that I did not go on many flights but they were sooooooooooo long. The flight to Tokyo was,by its self 12 hours and 11 min. The flight from Tokyo to Singapore was 9 hours. We reached Singapore at 12:05 in the morning and for the whole day, neither me nor my family got to go to sleep. Another thing that is shocking is that our next flight was only at 9:50 am!!!!!!!!!! We had to wait for the next flight ,but it was worth it because of all of our surroundings like- X-BOXES, INTERNET, TV AND MANY MORE. :) But the really good part about this is that all of the things were free!!!!!!!!! I can also prove this to you by the next sentence. The day that I had left was the 7th and the day that I arrived was the 9th. However,I am losing a day because I am traveling far from the WEST TO THE EAST.FINLAY WE ARRIVED IN KUALA LUMPUR AND I GOT TO SEE MY POH POH AND KONG KONG, (POH POH MEANS GRANDMA AND KONG KONG MEANS GRANDPA)BECAUSE I HAVE NOT SEEN THEM FOR 3 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
